Saturated Fat Causes Heart Attacks And Strokes--- Another Medical Myth

Heart Attacks And Strokes--- Another Medical Myth

Most cardiologists think pharmaceutically and not nutritionally—to the disastrous detriment of their patients. They also believe almost any and every medical study that comes down the pike. Long ago, saturated fat (meat, dairy, etc.) got a bad rap because it raised cholesterol levels. Since medical studies “proved” that higher cholesterol levels cause heart attacks and strokes (which they don’t), physicians automatically were duped into believing that saturated fats were bad for your heart.

The truth? There is no difference in the risk of cardiovascular disease between people who eat the most saturated fat and those who eat the least! This is proved beyond any doubt by examining 21 studies involving close to half a million people, monitored from 5 years to over 20 years. So eat your meat, have a little real ice cream, and feel good about it. To prevent cardiovascular disease don’t eat the real causes of heart attacks---processed foods that are loaded with sugar and polyunsaturated vegetable oils (corn, canola, and all the other crystal-clear, pure oils on store shelves).

These irritate and inflame your blood vessels and heart. And to be on the safe side, avoid margarines, “healthy” spreads, butter substitutes, and anything that is low-fat, zero-fat, low-cholesterol, zero-cholesterol, and anything recommended by the American Heart Association as heart- healthy. Instead, eat real food--- what a concept!

Nutrition: More Complicated Than You Think

Proper nutrition, both in terms of food eaten as well as supplements, is critical to achieve and maintain optimal health and prevent future problems. It is also a lot more complicated than it is often made out to be.

STEP ONE

First step is to eat well, which many people do not do. Some general guidelines include:
• Eat whole foods, rather than processed foods.
• Reduce/eliminate refined sugar and refined carbohydrates (white flour, pasta, white rice).
• Eliminate/ reduce fried foods and junk foods
• Reduce wheat
• Increase intake of fruits and vegetables
• Drink more water

STEP TWO

However, even if one eats relatively well, there are still other problems that occur.
A major problem is the fact that often food is not properly broken down into small particles where it can be absorbed from the small intestine into the blood stream. This is because many today do not have the proper amount of digestive enzymes, especially hydrochloric acid (HCL) in the stomach. This lack of HCL is also a major cause of reflux or GERD.

The widespread use of proton- pump inhibitors such as Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid, Acifex and Protonix , while sometimes helping to relieve symptoms, do not correct the underlying cause of reflux. Worse, these often have serious and damaging long- term consequences. (More of this in future newsletters)

STEP THREE

Even if food is properly broken down, many people still have malabsorption problems. Where they are unable to absorb these small nutrients from the digestive tract into the bloodstream, to be carried to each of our over 12 trillion cells. Why is this? Often the lining of the small intestine or colon becomes irritated or inflamed, for various reasons, and simply does not work properly. Hence, we get labels such as “ irritable bowel syndrome”, “colitis”, “intestinal permeability”, “leaky gut syndrome”, and “Crohn’s Disease”. All of these problems can usually be greatly improved and often eliminated, provided one finds a doctor that can address the true underlying causes.

STEP FOUR

Even if the small nutritional particles make their way into the blood stream, they still must get to the part of the body that needs them and across the cell wall into the cell. Each of our cells is like a little person, where nutrients must be able to get in and waste products must be able to get out. Very specific “carrier-nutrients” are needed to carry and transport the essential nutrients to the proper cell location and then across the cell wall.
A good analogy for this idea is: the highways (blood stream) can be full of trucks carrying food, yet this does not guarantee they will get to my street (the part of the body that needs it) or then through my front door and into my kitchen (across the cell wall).

An important example of this is: Many people today, especially women, are taking large amounts of calcium in an effort to prevent osteoporosis. Yet, if there is not enough of the proper omega- 3 fats, calcium will not be absorbed into the bone cells and often will actually become harmful, as it deposits in the arteries (heart/ stroke problems) or into the joints (arthritis).

Many people today have problems in some or all of these areas, with negative impact on their health. If you, or anyone you know, suffers from constipation, very hard or soft stools, gas, bloating, reflux, heartburn, indigestion, abdominal pain/ cramps, there are definitely problems in these areas that need to be addressed.

Most things do not get better on their own. The longer problems exist, the deeper they go and the more difficult they are to correct. This greatly increases the risk of chronic conditions and disease.

Immune System

In good health, Dr. Frederick Mindel

Germs Don’t Cause Disease…

Our immune system is a complex and miraculous system that is responsible for protecting us against infections. Most people think that “germs cause disease” yet this is not really the case, lowered resistance does. There are millions of germs all around us, both inside our bodies and in the environment yet when our immune system is strong we will fight off almost everything.

What decreases our immune system? An imbalance in any of the 8 areas, which comprise a holistic approach (see left sidebar) can interfere with the immune system. This is why balancing the whole person is so important and effective.

I will emphasize a few important facts about immunity as related to these areas: 1. Chronic Stress: which results in elevated levels of the adrenal hormone cortisol, often throws the immune system into choas, signaling many immune system cells to simply shut off or stop working. 2. Multiple Microbes: In almost every case of colds, flu’s and infections we find the presence of at least two, often three types of microbes, which include viruses, bacteria, parasites, molds, fungus and yeast. We also frequently find sensitivity/allergy to food, pollen and other airborne antigens as well as heavy metal accumulations which lower immunity and must be properly addressed. 3. Precise targeted nutritional supplements are a vital part of a fast recovery process. I have studied for over 20 years to find the most effective nutritional remedies to insure a strong immune system. Many of these are combination products with multiple ingredients because the synergistic effects are much more powerful then using single products such as Echinacea, Golden Seal or Vitamin C. With muscle testing we can quickly identify which supplements are needed to boost the immune system most effectively.

I am happy to say we have many patients who no longer get sick at all during the winter months. And those who do, get sick much less frequently than before and recover much more quickly and often dramatically, often 1-3 days instead of 1-3 weeks. I strongly encourage you to come in for a real immune system evaluation and strengthening. This is true prevention for the winter months.

Do You Have Food Allergies??

One of the most overlooked things in nutrition is allergies and sensitivities to food. Many people don’t even know they have food sensitivities. Often, some foods we crave and eat all the time are having a negative effect on our health.

Through muscle testing, which is fast, accurate and non-invasive (unlike many ‘conventional’ allergy tests) we can quickly pinpoint food sensitivities. We use a method called ‘allergy desensitization’, which involves stimulating acupuncture points with a cold laser. This ‘resets’ the body so it is no longer sensitive or allergic to a particular food. Usually, a person needs to abstain for only 2-3 weeks, after which time most people can go back to enjoying most things.

This state-of-the art technique is extremely effective. For many, this greatly improves digestion, helps decrease skin problems, eliminates fatigue, strengthens the immune system and aids in weight loss.

How does alcohol it affect your health

Alcohol is both a blessing and a curse, a poison and a food, a 'pick-me-up' and a 'lay-me-down', both an appetite stimulator and a destroyer; it is truly a mass of contradictions.

The very name whiskey originates from the ancient Gaelic word "usquebrugh"—water of life! Over 65 per cent of the United States population (more than 100 million Americans) drink alcoholic beverages. Of these, 76 per cent are men and 24 per cent are women. The occasional drinkers total 48 per cent; 27 per cent of men and 8 per cent of women are regular drinkers—that is, people who drink moderately or heavily at least three times a week. There are over 3 million heavy, constant drinkers, and over 750,000 alcoholics or addicts of "hard liquor".

Billions of dollars are spent each year on alcohol in the U.S.A. alone, more than is spent by Americans for their own health and medical care. All figures show the growing increase in the drink¬ing habit as part of life and social custom in our country.

Let us now consider briefly some of the main systems of the body and the effects of alcoholic damage upon them.

Alcohol can be harmful to the emotions and the mind. Since we began this discussion with the beneficial effects of alco¬hol on the psychic and mental processes, let us now see what the pharmacologists like Sollman find in their texts on the subject.
The habitual, even moderate, use of alcohol (not even to the point of intoxication) induces relaxation, the easing of strain (tension), of maladjustments, of excessive inhibitions, indeed euphoria, all of which may be beneficial. But it also leads to diminished efficiency, especially in accuracy, im¬paired judgment, increased liability to auto accidents, loss of self-reliance, perhaps diminished resistance to disease, danger of excesses, higher incidence of venereal disease and general disrespect for law and order.

In answer to the popular notion that alcohol is a "stimulant," the principle that alcohol is actually a depressant was first advanced in 1883 by the noted German pharmacologist, Schmeideberg. The following quotation is from the American translation by Doctors R. N. Harger, H. R. Hulpieu and G. N. Thompson:
The subjective and objective states and manifestations, from which alcoholic drinks are considered stimulants, are usually attributed to the stimulating effect of the alcohol. One refers to the manifestations which we observe under these conditions, namely to certain exaltations of the psychic functions resulting in loud and profuse speech, and vivacious acts, also to accelerated pulse rate, engorgement and flush¬ing of the body surface and the face, and a sensation of increased warmth. However, a closer consideration of these manifestations shows that they are the results of a beginning paralysis of certain parts of the brain, (italics mine)!

Since this finding was first expressed in 1883, the idea that alcohol acts as a stimulant to the nervous system has been dis¬proved in a host of pharmacological laboratories by countless scientists.

To continue:
In the psychic sphere there is first lost the finer grades of attention, judgment, reflection, and ability to comprehend. This serves to explain the typical behaviour of persons under the influence of alcoholic drinks. The soldier becomes more courageous since he observes the danger less, and reflects upon it less. The speaker is not tormented and in-fluenced by the proximity of the public; he, therefore, speaks freer and with more animation. One's self-appraisal rises greatly. Often one is astounded at the ease with which he expresses his thoughts and with the keeness of his judgment in matters which are beyond his mental sphere when sober, and is later ashamed of this delusion. The drunken indi¬vidual attributes to himself great muscular strength and wastes this through unaccustomed and useless exhibits of strength without thinking of the harm which may ensue, while the sober person willingly spares his strength.

This conclusion is now verified and accepted by all present-day pharmaceutical experts in the field of medicine and drugs. Even the public is thoroughly versed in the excessive effects of alcohol in causing poor or double vision, the unsteady, clumsy gait, the impairment of muscular coordination, the delayed reaction time, and the loss of normal judgment and self-control.

A healthier, happier and more successful you

A healthier, happier and more successful you

You can become a healthier, happier and more successful person by making a few simple changes to your lifestyle. You will have to make changes to the overall you, not just change the amount of exercise you do or your diet. The secret to achieving happiness and a healthier you is to balance your body and mind in harmony, it is only when we are balanced in physical health, mental and spiritual that we are truly healthy. We are talking - holistic!

If we are healthy, then we are happier and can reach success more easily in life, here are some ways you can bring back harmony and balance to your life.

Exercise is an essential part -- it helps to tone our body, keep our heart and lungs healthy and detoxifies. Exercise can be anything from more vigorous routines such as aerobics to simply walking. Pick your favorite activity and set aside a specific time of day and commit yourself to devoting a half-hour per day towards getting your body back into shape.

Eating right is the next essential step to maintaining a well-balanced life; our bodies need the right amount of vitamins, nutrients and minerals to work at its best. Making changes to our diet is easy, keep away from fast foods which contain a lot of saturated fats and sugar and start including more whole grains, fish, plenty of green vegetables and try to eat fresh fruit instead of juice when available.

Along with making changes to your diet you should include supplements such as vitamins, nutrients and minerals. Modern farming methods strip many of our foods of the minerals our bodies require and now just provide us with the basic nutrients. Due to this we might be lacking in certain minerals and vitamins, by supplementing your diet with vitamin and mineral supplements we can ensure we still get all the vital minerals, nutrients and vitamins we need in our daily diet. Visit this site for great supplements that I highly recommend: http://www.antiagingproductsshop.com.

Reducing the amount of stress we have in our life plays an important part in how we are able to cope with it. Stress can do much damage to our body and mind and has been linked with “burnout”, fatigue, sleep problems, depression and it lowers our immune system. Learning techniques on how to cope with stress and worry are essential to keeping yourself balanced and full of energy. There are a wide variety of techniques from simple breathing exercises which can be done anywhere, at anytime, to yoga which is a full system for relaxation and de-stressing, to meditation. There are many books, DVDS and CDS available on the subject or there are courses you can attend.

Lastly but by no means the least important is keeping life fun, doing something which you enjoy doing and makes you feel relaxed and happy each day. No, you are not being selfish by taking time out each day just for yourself, this time is essential. It is just as important as exercising, eating right and reducing stress, your time could be spent doing a hobby or pastime that you enjoy, sitting quietly and reading, taking a hot bubble bath while listening to your favorite music or spending quality time with your family or friends. It can be anything as long as it’s something you like to do and enjoying doing.

Welcome to the first edition of “Dr. Frederick Mindel Holistic Health Blog”

This will be a bi-weekly blog dedicated to communicating correct knowledge about health and healing and to increase awareness of the wonderful benefits of a true holistic approach. More people than ever are suffering from a wide variety of complaints including pain, fatigue, allergies, digestive, hormonal, insomnia, anxiety and weight gain. More people than ever are on drugs such as painkillers, anti-depressants, anti-inflammatory and antibiotics. The number of people who are overweight, obese, or who continually try to diet have reached alarming proportions. This sad state of affairs is due mostly to lifestyle and environmental factors and an over-reliance on the medical model, which attempts to suppress symptoms with the latest pill for the ill.

For over 20 years I have been on a search for the most effective ways to help people get well. I have studied with masters and have learned their brilliant techniques. When you treat causes of problems rather than symptoms, results are excellent. I invite you to read some patient testimonials on our website.

My goal is to bring you the latest breakthroughs in natural healthcare, which will be informative, enlightening and inspiring. I hope you will look forward to each issue and share them with friends and family.

What is Holistic Healthcare?

My approach is holistic: a word often misused. The exact definition of holistic is Considering a whole thing or being to be more than a collection of parts; treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms of a disease. Your system is one whole: all the parts are interconnected and everything affects everything else. To qualify as holistic one must address these 8 areas:

1. Mental/Emotional Stress
2. Energy Depletions
3. Nurtional Deficiencies
4. Toxins
5. Hormonal Imbalances
6. Nervous System Interferences
7. Structural Imbalances
8. Microbes

Most health problems are caused by imbalances among these 8 areas, over time, as related to an individual’s genetics, lifestyle, and capacity to deal with stress. Properly addressing all of these areas leads to dramatic improvements in health. The longer underlying symptoms go uncorrected, the greater the risk of developing more serious problems.
Our unique holistic approach incorporates over 15 advanced techniques that enable us to quickly get to the root of most problems. Each newsletter will address some of these eight areas and how this affects your health.

Did you know?

Early warning signs of cortisol imbalances:

* Sudden weight loss or gain* Tired but can not sleep* Headaches, repeated colds or flu* Nail bitting, teeth grinding* Low or high blood pressure* Low or high blood sugar* High Cholesterol* Ulcers and gastric disturbances* Neck, shoulder and back pain* Menstrual problems, hair loss

Patient Success Story

When I came to Dr. Mindel, I had been diagnosed by a rhematologist as a having rheumatoid arthritis. I had a very high sediment rate along with the arthritis factor. My joints were very swollen: ankles, fingers, knuckles, and knees. I had a problem getting out of a chair, into a tub, dressing, walking etc.Dr. Mindel examined me and told me that the source of my problem was toxicity. By using kinesiology, detoxification techniques, homeopathy and other methods he was able to heal my condition. I now have no symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and have been able to resume my normal activities. Wendy K.
